CHARLESTON, Ill.—The Illinois State track and field squad concluded its stint at Eastern Illinois Saturday evening, as multiple Redbirds earned personal-best marks at the Big Blue Invite.

The men’s team finished fifth overall, earning 85 points, while the women’s squad tallied 41 points for a seventh-place finish.

“The excitement of the day was the nice weather,” head coach Elvis Forde said. “I think it lifts everybody’s spirits, and I think their performances did reflect that. Overall, I think we continued to see some improvements all-around.”

In the women’s discus, Jianna Williams threw for a mark of 42.52m (139-06) to finish seventh overall, after capturing a first-place, personal-best mark of 54.97m (180-04) Friday in the women’s hammer throw.

In the short sprints, Sarah Mussallem led the way for the women’s team, clocking a 400-meter time of 57.11 to finish fifth overall. Mussallem followed that time with a 200-meter dash of 25.62, earning a 14th-place finish in a competitive 57-person field.

Anderson Devonish clocked a personal-best time of 48.50 in the men’s 400-meter sprint, finishing third overall. Right behind Devonish was Antonio Farley who ran to a time of 48.85.

Jackie Mink continues to improve weekly, as she ran for a personal-best 800-meter time of 2:14.17, beating her former career-best by two seconds.

Fabian Norgrove took a break from the short sprints to lead the way for the Redbird men in the 800-meter run, notching a time of 1:53.46 to finish fourth overall. Aidan Askin finished with a time of 1:55.18, while Ryan Bybee clocked an 800-meter time of 1:55.88. Norgrove accompanied by Farley, Devonish and Nathan Schreiber, ran a season-best 4x100-meter relay time of 42.33.

“Kudos to the 4x100-meter relay team”, Forde said. “I think that was one of the best runs we had in a long time. We saw them get the stick around and under 43 seconds. There are still some things that need to be done with the handoff and exchanges. Our 4x400 men’s team also had a good effort, not their best, but still a good day for those two relay teams.”

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Norgrove, Farley, Devonish and Coty Kramer also picked up a third-place finish with a time of 3:16.04.

In the distance events, Ashley Kamin and Kimi Sanden showed weekly improvement, as they both earned personal-best times in the 1,500-meter race. Kamin finished with a time of 4:38.81 earning sixth, and Sanden clocked a four-second personal-record of 4:44.21.
