Chorba Named ISU Cheerleading Coach

Aug. 6, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - With over a decade of experience coaching cheer, Steve Chorba will utilize that knowledge in his latest position as the head cheerleading coach at Illinois State University.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity and I look forward to making Illinois State cheerleading into the premiere cheerleading program in the state of Illinois," Chorba said.

Chorba has spent the last two years as the head trainer for the Danish Cheerleading Association, in an effort to promote and advance the sport of cheerleading in Europe. In addition to working with curriculum and program development, Chorba was also heavily involved in running private camps in Denmark.

During the 2007-08 season, Chorba served as the captain of the Louisville cheerleading team while continuing his education in exercise science. Prior to Louisville, Chorba worked four seasons as the head cheerleading coach at DePaul, where he worked in unison with the Blue Demon marketing staff, pep band, dance team and mascot for game experience.

He still serves as a head instructor and member of the core staff and college staff of the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), which he began in 1998. With the UCA, Chorba has instructed college cheerleaders on the most effective crowd involvement techniques and safety guidelines established by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA).

Certified by the AACCA, Chorba earned his bachelor's degree in biological science at DePaul in 2000. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, TRC gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
