ISU Athletics, Radio Bloomington Extend Contract

June 12, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - With over an 80-year relationship, Radio Bloomington's WJBC will continue to serve as the flagship station of the Illinois State radio network through the 2016-17 athletic season thanks to a new five-year agreement between the two parties.

"Illinois State Athletics and Radio Bloomington are approaching a century of excellence in working together," ISU Director of Athletics Gary Friedman said. "We value our partnership with Radio Bloomington, its leadership from Red Pitcher and R.C. McBride, and their entire staff. This new agreement allows our partnership to grow with expanded promotion and coverage of Illinois State Athletics throughout the region and state. The future is very bright for Illinois State and I'm so appreciative to Red and R.C., and Todd Kober from our staff, for their leadership and interest in enhancing this wonderful relationship."

Pitcher, the vice president and general manager of Radio Bloomington, is also pleased to continue the partnership.

"Radio Bloomington is rooted deeply in the community and our relationship with Illinois State is paramount of importance to us," Pitcher said. "The partnership we have is of mutual respect and with the goal of successes on and off the courts and fields. We look forward to many more years of working with Illinois State."

The partnership includes continuing coverage of Redbird football, men's basketball and women's basketball broadcasts throughout the regular season and postseason. Starting in the 2014-15 season, all Illinois State football and men's basketball games will be available on both WJBC-AM 1230 and WJBC-FM 93.7 to provide greater coverage. In the two seasons leading up to 2014-15, Redbird games will be broadcast on both the AM and FM signals when possible.

Broadcasts and additional programing are also available via audio streaming through the partnership. Visit or for more information, or download the Illinois State Athletics mobile app and the RadioPup mobile app for additional coverage of Illinois State Athletics.

In addition, ISU Athletics will retain control of most of the network advertising in an effort to offset expenses of expanding the Illinois State Radio Network.
