Redbird Softball is Ready to Strike Out Cancer

April 7, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. -Redbird fans are encouraged to come out to Marian Kneer Softball Stadium Wednesday, April 9, as the Illinois State softball team hosts its annual Strike Out Cancer game, against in-state foe DePaul. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Redbird softball holds its annual Strike Out Cancer game each year as a way to recognize cancer survivors and honor those who have lost the battle with cancer of any type. In honor of this game, former Redbird softball player Linda Wendt Curless will be recognized for her contributions to the Illinois State family, before passing away from the disease. Curless’s family will be presented with a framed ISU jersey on the field, just before the start of play.

To take home a piece of the game, the softball team will be selling pink Strike Out Cancer T-shirts throughout the duration of play for $15. All proceeds will be donated to Linda’s memorial at the Graham Hospital Mammography Unit, located in Canton, Ill., in support of cancer research.

Admission is free for the entire regular season at Marian Kneer Softball Stadium. For more information about Redbird softball, please visit and click on softball.
