Play 4Kay Treadmills Return To Raise Money For Cancer Research

February 13, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. – The fourth-annual women’s basketball Play 4Kay cancer awareness game returns to Redbird Arena Sunday, Feb. 16, when the women’s basketball team takes on Southern Illinois at 2 p.m. At the event, treadmill runners, joggers and walkers, along with three sprint triathletes, will be joining the women’s basketball team courtside, raising money to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to support cancer research.

At tip-off at Redbird Arena, treadmill and triathlete participants will begin their respective efforts to continue to raise money. Treadmill participants will each partake in five minute game-clock sessions. Two treadmills will be running at all times throughout the game, so participants are able to honor their time commitments made to sponsors to fundraise for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Founded in 2007 by North Carolina State coaching legend Kay Yow, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through fundraising for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. The goals of the Play 4Kay game at Illinois State are to promote awareness and raise funds for scientific research to fight women’s cancers, as well as celebrate and uplift, cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer in our community.

The ISU Athletics Department and women’s basketball team would like to give a special thanks to the generous sponsors that make the Play 4Kay event possible, including Advocate Bromenn Medical Center, Community Cancer Center, Mennonite College of Nursing, the Student Nurses Association at Illinois State University and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
